FAQs About Instances

This page lists FAQs about instances. If you don't find the answer you're looking for here, please submit a ticket to contact us.

How to Connect to a DMIT Instance via SSH Key?

You can refer to the following documents to learn how to connect to a DMIT instance using an SSH key:

  1. Connect to a DMIT Instance via Termius
  2. Connect to a DMIT Instance via PuTTY
  3. Connect to a DMIT Instance via XShell
  4. Connect to a DMIT Instance via FinalShell

Why Can't I Remote Login Using the Root Password?

To ensure the security of your instance, we have disabled remote root password login by default. We strongly recommend that you log in to your instance using SSH keys.

If you need to access your instance through the console, you can follow these steps to change the root password and log in via the console:

Steps

  1. In the instance control panel, go to the Access tab and select Change Password to set your root password. Make sure the password is sufficiently complex.
  2. Access the instance console via the Console option at the top of the instance control panel. Log in to the instance using the root username and the password you just set.

Security Risk Notice

Since logging in with the root password poses security risks, we do not recommend attempting to remove the restriction on remote root password login.

Can Additional Hardware Resources Be Added to an Instance?

Most instance packages allow the addition of certain hardware resources, such as memory and storage. However, IP addresses and CPU cores are supported by only a few instance packages (e.g., LAX Pro, LAX sPro). If you need to upgrade your instance, please submit a ticket to contact us.

Why is the RAM usage displayed on the instance control panel different from the actual usage?

Due to Linux's memory management mechanism, unused memory is utilized for caching. This cached memory will be released when the system needs it. Therefore, the memory usage displayed on the instance control panel includes cached memory, which means the actual usage might be lower than what is shown on the control panel.

Can an Instance Be Upgraded or Downgraded to Another Package?

For instances within the same series, upgrades to a higher configuration package are allowed (only to packages available in the store). The new package's storage must not be less than that of the original package; otherwise, the upgrade will not be possible.

Downgrading instances is currently not supported.

Upgrade Costs

Upgrade costs are calculated based on the difference between the new package and the original package. The remaining service time does not affect the cost calculation. The upgraded package will be billed at the price of the new package.

Can the Transfer Quota Be Increased or Reset?

The transfer quota automatically resets every month, and you can see the next reset time on the instance control panel.

Paid transfer quota reset is supported in most standard packages, with the cost being equivalent to the instance's monthly fee. The calculation formula is: renewal price / billing cycle = reset cost.

Currently, additional transfer quota can only be supported for sPro series packages.

How Is the Transfer Quota Charged?

We currently have two billing methods for transfer quota:

Billing Methods

  1. Bidirectional Billing: Transfer quota is charged bidirectionally, meaning both uploads and downloads are counted towards the transfer quota.
  2. Unidirectional Maximum Billing: Transfer quota is charged unidirectionally, meaning only one direction (either uploads or downloads) is counted, and the maximum of the two is recorded as the used transfer quota.

What Are the Transfer Overload Rule?

We currently have three transfer overload rules:

Transfer Overload Rules

  1. Suspend After Overload: When your instance exceeds its transfer quota, the instance will be suspend. You can view detailed information about the overload situation on the instance control panel in the client area.
  2. Throttle After Overload: When your instance exceeds its transfer quota, the network port will be throttled. Throttling will ensure only SSH connections remain functional, while other services may be affected.
  3. No Restrictions: Under this billing model, your instance’s transfer quota has no restrictions. However, instances with this model usually have lower network port speeds (e.g., LAX.Pro.u series).

Handling Overload

When your instance exceeds its transfer quota, you can choose to pay for a quota reset (available for most standard packages) or wait for the next quota reset date for automatic restoration.
